Rockwool Pipe Lagging

Why Use Rockwool Pipe Lagging?

Rockwool pipe lagging is also called stone wool or mineral wool pipe insulation. Some of the benefits you get by using rock wool pipe insulation are as follows:

Rockwool generally has a low thermal conductivity, which means they do not allow heat to pass through the fabric easily. This means, by using Rockwool or Mineral wool to insulate pipes, you save energy, money and take a step closer to achieving an energy-efficient home or building.

Mineral wool is compatible with all kinds of pipes and hence can be used to insulate pipes made of copper, steel and others.

Since mineral wool is breathable and open-cell by nature, it allows vapours to pass through easily but does not support the growth of bacteria or fungi.

Rockwool is water resistant. Most pipe insulation made of rock wool has foil-facings that act as a vapour barrier, protecting both, the lagging and application from water ingress.

Mineral wool gives you extra peace of mind as it is generally A1 or A2 rated by Euroclass and is considered non-combustible or a product with limited combustibility.

Mineral wool is made of natural rocks like basalt and recycled slag. The manufacturing process is environmentally friendly and helps in conserving resources whilst eliminating waste.

Can Rockwool be used to insulate cold water pipes?

Though pipe insulation made of rock wool works efficiently in temperatures up to 0°C, it may not be ideal for cold water pipe insulation. Rockwool pipe lagging is best suited to insulate the heating and hot water pipes as it can be used in applications as high as 250°C.

Where To Buy Rockwool Pipe Insulation?

You can buy Rockwool or Paroc pipe insulation online, right here at Buy Insulation Online. We stock them at a low cost and deliver them for free in the main cities across the UK.

How to buy mineral wool pipe insulation online?

There are three factors that you must consider when buying pipe insulation online. The length of the pipe section, the outer diameter of the pipe you want to insulate and the thickness of the pipe lagging.

For example, if a pipe insulation's online listing reads 1.2m x 22mm x 25mm - it means that the said pipe insulation section is 1.2m long and is suitable for pipes with 22mm wall or bore and has a 25mm thick insulation around them.

How do you install Rockwool insulation around pipes?

Rockwool insulation or any mineral wool insulation is usually lightweight and can be installed easily around pipes. They are supplied in 1 or 1.2m lengths and are usually pre-slit to allow easy installation.

Rockwool pipe lagging comes with a self-adhesive strip, which means you simply have to wrap the pipe lagging around the pipework, remove the backing paper and join the insulation ends together.

For mineral wool pipe insulation that does not come with self-adhesive strips, installation can be completed using foil tape, duct tape, pipe insualtion adhesives etc. Also, do not forget to complete the installation using appropriate pipe identification labels
